RE: Insurance replacement coverage

Progressive cut our car insurance in half vs. State Farm to under $900 for everything for a year. TT gets insured with them this spring. Can't wait to see how much we save there. I LOVE hearing I can get full replacement coverage with them!

RE: The smaller they get....

My wife would go out in the garage, find our old tenting setup, and throw it all at my head if I came home with something that small, lol. We'll struggle on in our 9000 lb 32' trailer with the full bunkhouse :)

RE: Jayco's extended dinette issues

Wood is standard pine, seems to be dried and straight. I will be replacing all staples with screws and replacing screws with bigger screws. Going out to do it today while football is on.

RE: Wood Framing vs Aluminum Framing

Washing an aluminum sided trailer is no big deal either. After the roof was done, it took me under two hours to do the sides of my 32' trailer (with a decent extention brush).

Jayco's extended dinette issues

For the second year in a row, I'll have to rebuild my dinette with the extensions. The wheels underneath keep collapsing because of weak attachments and support, leading to an offset seat that inserts into the main bench oddly, and stressing the rest of the construction. Other panels in the dinette are coming apart at the staples. Last winter when I discovered the breakdown, I was suprised to see how poorly designed these extentions are, especially when it will naturally take so much more abuse from ingress/egress than the regular bench seats. Actually, since there are only four of us, so we rarely sit on them to begin with, it's doubly suprising they would fail so easily. I'll have to be better at shoring them up to avoid another repair next season.

RE: Advice for 1st camping trip with new TT?

Do not forget to chock your wheels before you unhitch! Ugly things can happen. Don't ask me how I know.

RE: Rv owners in the north

I only cover my AC unit, and that's probably not necessary.

RE: Keeping Warm - safe and inexpensive.

It is truly amazing where a simple post, that only shares information about something found to work, can lead to. This was not meant to be a debate over what heating method is best or worst. If what you use works for you, great. If not, read what others use. Somewhere you may find a better way. Downgrading another poster is just not the way to respond. Perhaps you're not familiar with the way internet message boards work?

RE: Keeping Warm - safe and inexpensive.

Not necessary with todays technology.

RE: Keeping Warm - safe and inexpensive.

A couple of ceramic heaters did our 32' trailer just fine this past weekend when it got down to the mid 20's, and they both fit on one level under the bathroom sink. Together they cost $25 and have auto shut off when they tip over. No worries.

Where can I get an awning like that?

RE: I'm fed up with the hunt....

We replaced our 2000 Excursion with a 2004 about six weeks ago (we must have received the last no money down, low interest loan in the nation). It took me hours of net research and almost three weeks to find the right one, get the right price and assure myself it was in good condition. Now we're prepared for the next decade of child growth and camping fun, fully aware that we'll probably have to keep this beast until we retire somewhere.

RE: Dealer put 3 holes in my roof

If it makes you feel better, Jayco had to replace a significant portion of the roof plywood on my 29FBS less than 6 months after we bought it. While quite unhappy about the repair, the 2.5 years since have shown absolutely no problem with the roof. They can be repaired like new. I also walk on my roof every trip to clear the top of the slide. How do you maintain the membrane and caulking if you dont walk on the roof?

RE: Should I buy a new truck

We just upgraded to a 2004 Excursion from our 2000 because of the incredible deals on used trucks. Our kids are too young (5 & 7)to take RVing out of their lives, so we're going to shorten trips and take more of them.

RE: Dealing with the dealership

No, they cover and offer nothing extra. I have my Jayco dealer 85 miles away, or a dealer of a different brand 1.5 miles away that has excellent service and never cares that I have a Jayco. Thank goodness my trailer has only required one major service appointment with Jayco, a replaced roof panel that was repaired under warranty but cost me nearly $150 in fuel to get resolved (at only $2.50/gallon!)

RE: Prodigy failure on its first trip

Yeah, that's where I'm at with this now. Glad to have identified a critical problem in my wiring. Now to get it fixed without costing us our last trip of the year. If no one interrupts us, I think the wife and I will team up on the underside inspection this afternoon. I'll have her watching the brake controller while I run around on my creeper, looking for connection problems.

RE: Prodigy failure on its first trip

All right, I guess I'm getting under the trailer to look for a pinched wire. Jay2003, the wife and I did a check of connections and possible problems in the connector wires and saw nothing wrong with the truck/trailer idling, not that means much. Scott and Terry, the connector looks fine, no corrosion. Everything look like metal in the M/F connections. Charlie, the tech I talked to wasn't the one who did the brake job and I was too distracted by having to pay for a fix that I didn't mention it right then. Gdetrailer, the trailer is a Jayco JF 29FBS. It's a big, heavy trailer and needs its brakes. I actually have a roll of 10 and 8 gauge solid core, too bad I can't use it. fla-gypsy, I'll have to look for that. I didn't notice it so far. Back to the manual! Weldon, I'm not that mechanically competent and the wife wont stand for me working on the brakes anyway. She's seen some of the results of my home projects over the last ten years. Thanks tvman44, that's a great idea to check into. I'll price it out with some first thing tomorrow since we have a wedding to go to 500 miles away exactly one month from now. Thanks for the replies everyone. Still looking for that other Prodigy thread...

Prodigy failure on its first trip

Of course, the RV center that installed it says the problem is in my trailer, so I thought I'd ask here for confirmation, since I know coincidences do happen. My old controller and tow vehicle, a lesser model Tekonsha (I dont remember which since I never had problems with it)and a 2000 6.8 Excursion got traded in for a 2004 Excursion 6.8. My old brake controller was hardwired to the truck and I always wanted the Prodigy anyway, so I let it go with the old truck. Our trip downstate with the new Prodigy was fine, although as I was backing into our campsite it let me know something was amiss. I got an error code for a second as I was maneuvering the trailer in and out. NC. Just once and not again. The truck sat for the duration of our ten day camping trip/conference. The vacation was great and we now know Peoria way better than we have a right too. :) The trip home was not so great. Halfway there the controller starts to throw out error codes constantly in braking situations. It would brake normally, then flash to NC and I'd lose the brakes. Then NC goes away and the brakes return. Or a new error code would appear. Judging by the Prodigy installation guide, I got all of its error messages at one time or another. Needless to say the ride home was not a sleepy experience. I got off the highway, had to stop in a driving rainstorm and the Prodigy never got better. I made it home fine, if two hours later than expected, and took the trailer in to Colliers RV, a place I like and trust a lot, and that I live a mile away from. :) Afer testing, they tell me the problem is in the trailer. They're sure a magnet has broken loose or a wire is shorting out. Funny, the trip before, the trailer braked just fine with my 2000 Excursion, even in one very memorable deer in road situation. So please tell me, does this sound like a trailer isue? Could the hard braking incident with the deer have caused the short or loose piece? They're estimating $400 if they have to remove all four wheels and recommend a repack since the brakes will be disassembled. Great, I just has a brake job done by Colliers this spring. Please advise.
